Block Tales Chapter 1: Storming the Castle

Block Tales Chapter 1—Storming the Castle—is your first full chapter. You head into Blackrock Castle for the Ice Dagger and face the Cruel King. The chapter teaches exploration habits and combat pacing that the rest of the game assumes you know. Use this guide if you are stuck, hunting BUX, or want a cleaner Cruel King fight.

You should finish the Prologue first so you have your starter deck and basic battle flow. Chapter 1 starts near the Caves and runs through the Caves, Icy Caves, Roadtown, Snowy Thicket, and Blackrock Castle.

The Caves split into upper caves and deeper icy caves. Upper caves feature Devious Rats and Smugupines—good for early TIX before Roadtown shops. BUX #6 sits on the first stalactite platform above the entrance. BUX #7 hides behind the frozen pillar in the second icy chamber. Clear both rooms slowly so you do not walk past them.

Roadtown is the Chapter 1 hub: weapon shop, free inn rest, and Jim the Accountant, who gives you a Whole Pizza when you talk to him. Speak to everyone. BUX #8 is in the alley between the weapon shop and the inn. After Roadtown you cross Snowy Thicket (Hungry Wolves, Cheeky Eagles). BUX #9 is on top of the large snow tree on the left side of the clearing.

Blackrock Castle is the largest zone: Gate, Prison, Kitchen, Courtyard, Great Hall, Upper Floors, Armory, and Throne Room. BUX #10 is in an empty prison cell. BUX #11 is above the Kitchen fireplace (jump from counters). BUX #12 is on the right Courtyard parapet across a gap. Castle enemies (Loyal Knights, Crossbow Cronies) hit harder—use this area to tighten your defend timing.

You fight a Supreme Ant mini-boss (10 HP) before the Throne Room, then Banished Knight (8 HP) and Spiky Killbot (4 HP). None are optional. Heal and manage SP before the throne.

The Cruel King is the chapter boss in the Throne Room. He hits in phases, including a rough three-hit combo if you ignore defense. You do not need a perfect speedrun offense—steady damage plus Defend cards and healing through heavy turns is reliable. After the win you earn the Ice Dagger and unlock Chapter 2.

Good Chapter 1 decks include balanced sword + Defend, or an early SP Saver setup for more skills. HP Finder and SP Finder from the Prologue cost 0 BP and are safe includes. Knight helps sword builds if you already picked it up.
