Chapter 1 · Blackrock Castle
How to beat Cruel King
Reward: Ice Dagger progression
Cruel King is the Chapter 1 boss inside Blackrock Castle’s Throne Room. You reach him after the Supreme Ant, Banished Knight, and Spiky Killbot. He is many players’ first real skill check—not because he is the hardest boss in the game, but because he forces you to defend on purpose instead of face-tanking.
Heal to full before the throne. Roadtown’s inn still works until you beat him. Bring any food you bought or found—this fight lasts several turns at Chapter 1 stats.
Phase one is slower single hits with clear telegraphs. Around 60% HP he adds two-hit strings—the second input is slightly faster. Under ~30% he mixes in a heavy charged swing; Defend+ or high DEF softens it if you already farmed extras.
Deck tip: run multiple Defend cards with your main damage package. Knight helps sword damage; SP Saver keeps skills online. You will not have Deep Focus yet, but food bought with early TIX covers mistakes.
Winning advances the story and grants the Ice Dagger. In Demo 5, Cruel King DX is a tougher rematch that unlocks Call: Cruel King—look for that fight if you are on the latest build.
Cruel King DX tip: treat it like a Pit gear check—three Defend+ copies and your best Call Cards make the faster patterns manageable.
